The discipline of Study is my favorite. Mostly because I have always liked to understand stuff; to know how and why things work; to know why things are or aren’t. I have love school since before I was old enough to attend school. I was always amazed by kids who didn’t like school.
Foster really teaches us that there is more to study than just reading books. Study is about shaping our thinking. Proverbs 23:7a says “For so he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” It is pointed out that the admonishment to renew our minds (Roman 12:2b) is about study. Yet we tend to do more devotional reading of the bible than study. I find the opposite to be truth for me. What about you? And what would the results be if you flip flopped this tendency?
Foster also discussed studying not just books but nature for lesson that change the mind. I have to admit I am not a nature watcher by nature, but there are things in creation that catch my eye form time to time. Not just nature but the cosmos. In fact, (though a little be off subject) here is a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ya12I036lg&feature=em-share_video_user) I find awe inspiring every time I watch it. How does contemplating and study creation help reshape your thinking?
